Habitat for Humanity’s Homeownership Program is robust and has an in-depth approach in supporting those looking for affordable housing. Collectively, the five new homeowners completed over fourteen workshops in preparation for homeownership. In turn, they have earned over $50,000 in home-buying grants. They also saved over $20,000 toward their homes and those savings were matched with $12,000 via Individual Development Accounts. Each homeowner completed 125 hours of volunteer work, aka they built “Sweat Equity”, some even took part in volunteering to help build their own home! Habitat for Humanity is building housing and bulldozing barriers to traditional homeownership by providing an incredibly affordable mortgage product and you may qualify! There are minimum and maximum income requirements and you must have an adequate need for affordable housing. Families requiring ADA accessibility or with members with special needs are highly encouraged to apply to the Habitat for Humanity Homeownership program. Homeownership Applications Open Soon! Join a Habitat for Humanity Informational Session to learn more about their program. Naara SilvaNaara works with AHCOPA as an AmeriCorps VISTA through Housing Action Illinois
